CFTC Requires Designated Contract Markets to Stop Improper Geographic Restrictions Within 30 Days
on Nov. 6, citing an announcement by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the agency issued an interpretation of the fair access requirements for designated contract markets, requiring relevant markets to cease violating U.S. domestic geographic restrictions within 30 days, or else explain to the regulatory authority why they cannot comply.
The CFTC also stated that designated contract markets must, within 30 days, ensure that intermediaries accessing their platforms do not hinder fair access and comply with these requirements; otherwise, they must similarly provide reasons for non-compliance. The Commission will evaluate potential actions on a case-by-case basis, considering the specific facts and circumstances.
