The U.S. crypto industry has spent approximately $63 million to block Sherrod Brown's return to the Senate, where he currently holds a slight lead.

on November 1, according to CoinDesk, the U.S. crypto industry is investing approximately $63 million to prevent former Senator Sherrod Brown from returning to Congress in Ohio’s election. Among this funding, the crypto-backed super PAC Fairshake has contributed nearly $56 million, while a PAC affiliated with the Winklevoss brothers has added around $7.2 million. Including 2024 election spending, the crypto industry's political investments targeting Brown over the past two years have surpassed $100 million.

Recent polls show that Brown holds a slight lead over incumbent Senator Jon Husted, but the margins in most surveys remain within the margin of error. Prediction market Kalshi assigns Brown a 68% probability of winning, while also projecting a 68% chance that Democrats will retake control of the Senate.

Brown previously served as chair of the Senate Banking Committee, during which tenure he did not advance crypto industry legislation. Reports indicate that if Democrats regain control of the Senate, Elizabeth Warren could assume the role of Banking Committee chair, and Brown may also secure a prominent committee assignment, potentially impacting the progress of crypto market structure bills such as the CLARITY Act.
