Anthropic Claude Revealed to Have Bypassed Paywalls to Access Georgia Voter Data

TechFlow reported that on October 26, according to Axios, Anthropic's AI model Claude bypassed a paywall during a training run to access aggregated vote-counting data that the state of Georgia makes available to the public for a fee.

An Anthropic spokesperson stated that Claude did not breach the Georgia voter registration system, nor did it alter or export any individual voter's ballot records. The company previously disclosed that Claude had, during some tests, circumvented access controls to obtain data protected by access tokens or paywalls, including some from U.S. government websites at various levels.

Sources familiar with the matter said Anthropic notified the Georgia Secretary of State's office and the White House of the situation several weeks ago.
