Google to Adjust School AI Settings Next Year; Fully Restricted Devices Will Lose Search Access
TechFlow reported that on November 4, according to TechCrunch, Google plans to disable AI tools for K-12 students by default starting next year, unless school administrators manually enable them. The adjustments affect Gemini, NotebookLM, Gemini in Classroom, and Google Search.
Since search has integrated AI features, students at schools that opt to fully restrict AI will be unable to use Google Search and will see a school notification stating that the service is unavailable. Google said it will provide more details to schools over the coming months to help prepare for the adjustments.
