Anthropic IPO Could Bring Over A$1.5 Billion in Holding Gains to Commonwealth Bank of Australia

TechFlow reports that, according to Bloomberg on October 27, Australia's largest lender, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), has seen the valuation of its stake in Anthropic increase approximately tenfold over the past year. CBA participated in Anthropic's Series E financing round in March 2025, with the value of its holdings rising from 153 million Australian dollars at the end of June 2025 to 1.53 billion Australian dollars at the end of June 2026. This valuation is based on the post-funding valuation following Anthropic's capital raise completed in May 2026; CBA did not participate in that round.

The upcoming initial public offering (IPO) of Anthropic may provide CBA with an opportunity to sell its shares and realize investment returns, though such gains have not yet been actualized.
