Deepgram Acquires Voice AI Infrastructure Developer Daily; Its Open-Source Framework Pipecat Will Remain Open
on October 30, according to TechCrunch, voice AI company Deepgram has acquired Daily, the developer of Pipecat, an open-source voice AI infrastructure framework. Both parties did not disclose the transaction value and committed to maintaining Pipecat's open-source status and vendor neutrality. Pipecat manages audio and video streams, and integrates speech-to-text (STT), large language models (LLM), and text-to-speech (TTS) to reduce real-time interaction latency.
This acquisition will help Deepgram strengthen its real-time audio and video infrastructure footprint while expanding beyond voice AI models. Daily co-founder Kwindla Kramer will join Deepgram. Deepgram also announced the launch of the open protocol Real-Time Context Standard (RCS), jointly developed with the Pipecat team, which defines audio context, model instructions, and voice response specifications for voice AI agents.
