South Korea's ruling Democratic Party will further solicit opinions and swiftly decide whether to delay the taxation of crypto assets.

on October 27, according to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's ruling Democratic Party of Korea held a meeting of its legislators on October 27 to discuss whether to delay the taxation of crypto assets, but did not reach an official party stance. Intra-party floor leader Jeon Eun-soo stated after the meeting that the party would "listen to more opinions." She said that with only about 60 days remaining until the tax implementation date, the party will make a decision as soon as possible. According to Jeon Eun-soo, Policy Committee Chair Kwon Il-seong conveyed various perspectives at the meeting, where voices advocating for a tax delay emerged.

Legislator Ahn Do-jung presented several grounds, arguing that the tax should be implemented simultaneously after the passage of the Digital Assets Basic Act. South Korea's crypto asset taxation system was established in 2020 and has been delayed three times to date. If not delayed further, it will take effect starting in January 2027: annual income generated from the transfer or lending of crypto assets will be taxed at a comprehensive rate of 22% (other income tax plus local income tax) after deducting a basic exemption of 2.5 million won. Relevant reports from Yonhap indicate that the South Korean Presidential Office leans toward delaying the tax, likely taking youth public opinion into account.
