Trump: There are currently no plans to immediately strike Iran.
on November 4, according to the UK Financial Times, Trump stated that the United States currently has no immediate plans to strike Iran. He downplayed speculation about preparations to escalate the conflict with Iran after the midterm elections. In an interview with the Financial Times on Tuesday local time, Trump hinted that he is satisfied with the current stalemate with Iran, though he also indicated that he stands ready to take further military action if necessary. During the six-minute phone interview, he said, “It appears we are getting everything we want.” When asked about Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s strong hints of a strike later this week, Trump responded, “We are ready, and so is everyone else. If action is required, we can strike at any time, but perhaps there will be no need at all.”
Trump claimed that energy prices would drop significantly after the midterm elections, noting that more oil is currently passing through the Strait of Hormuz than prior to hostilities, while the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports is effectively strangling Tehran's economy. “This is a great situation,” Trump said. He emphasized that he would not disclose any preemptive attack plans, but stated that indirect negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program remain ongoing. (Jin10)
