Ethereum's New Proposal Aims to Allow Wallets to Permanently Disable EIP-7702 Delegation Feature

on October 31, according to The Defiant, developer nicolashw submitted a draft Ethereum Improvement Proposal on October 30, proposing to allow Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs) to permanently disable the EIP-7702 delegation feature while retaining their original address, standard transfers, and contract call capabilities.

Unlike merely clearing current delegations, this operation is irreversible and prevents accounts from re-authorizing smart contract code to act on their behalf going forward. However, this mechanism cannot prevent fund transfers following a private key leak, does not revoke existing token approvals, and may impact account recovery and asset access for those relying on delegation functionality.

The draft proposal has not yet been merged nor assigned an official EIP number. Should it eventually be adopted, it will still require activation through an Ethereum network upgrade.
