SkyBridge Capital founder: Trump's meme coin business causes CLARITY Act to be stalled

According to Cointelegraph, SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci stated that Trump's cryptocurrency business and meme coin issuance caused the CLARITY Act to lose support from the Democrats, weakening the bipartisan momentum of the bill. He claimed that the related meme coins were launched before Trump's inauguration in January 2025, which is one of the reasons for the bill's obstruction.

Scaramucci also pointed out that there are differences between lawmakers and the White House regarding ethical restrictions: lawmakers want to strengthen the limitations on government officials' interests in cryptocurrency assets, while the White House is reluctant to sign related provisions. He stated that both sides should take responsibility for the failure to advance negotiations.

On September 15, the U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, with the procedural motion receiving 49 votes in favor and 50 votes against, falling short of the required 60 votes. The bill aims to establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets.
