Anthropic Engineering Manager Announces Cancellation of Coding Interviews, Citing Inability to Effectively Evaluate Candidates

TechFlow reported that on October 28, Felix Rieseberg, an engineering manager at Anthropic, stated in a post that the advancement of AI programming tools has made traditional coding interviews difficult for effectively assessing candidates, leading him to discontinue their use in his team's hiring process. He believes AI has lowered the execution costs of software development, allowing junior engineers to demonstrate their capabilities by understanding business objectives, proposing breakthrough ideas, and building functional prototypes over the weekend. He recommends that engineers prioritize business value over to-do tasks, concentrate on a single high-quality idea, and leverage their fresh perspective to uncover issues the organization has long overlooked.

Rieseberg also noted that recruitment evaluations are gradually shifting toward assessing a candidate's ability to build products using AI, as well as their aesthetic sensibility, user empathy, and principled thinking.
