Hong Kong Monetary Authority warns of two fake "FPS" websites suspected of inducing users to provide bank account information

on November 1, according to an announcement released by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on October 30, the Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited (HKICL) discovered two fraudulent websites impersonating its official website, namely fpshktk.sbs and tknewfps.cc.

The announcement states that the aforementioned websites, under the guise of "Buyer Online Security Protection," falsely claim to offer services such as FPS transaction refunds, unauthorized transaction reporting, and online transaction support to deceive users into providing their bank name, bank account number, and account holder name, and further direct them to contact counterfeit customer service personnel.

HKICL emphasized that the aforementioned websites have no connection whatsoever with its official operations. The organization typically does not provide FPS services directly to the public nor proactively reach out to individual users. Authorities remind the public to remain vigilant against suspicious websites and communications, avoid disclosing bank account and personal information, and report to the police immediately if they suspect fraud.
