Greek Parliament passes crypto asset capital gains tax framework at a 10% rate

on November 6, citing The Defiant, the Greek parliament passed a crypto asset tax framework on November 5, imposing a 10% tax on individual capital gains, with annual net gains of up to €500 exempt from tax. The parliament's scientific service department stated that the new capital gains provisions will take effect on January 1, 2027.

The report notes that the application scope includes the sale of crypto assets, purchasing goods or services with crypto assets, and contributing them as corporate capital. The Greek finance ministry indicated that income from lending, providing liquidity, and staking will be taxed as interest at a 15% rate.

The bill still awaits publication in the Government Gazette. The finance ministry stated that exchanges between crypto assets do not generate taxable gains, but the parliament's scientific service department noted that the bill's broader wording on disposal may cover such exchanges, and recommended explicitly excluding them.
