Anthropic's $1.5 Trillion IPO Faces Scrutiny
TechFlow reported on Nov. 6 that, according to Jinshi Data, sources familiar with the matter stated that after the massive stock market sell-off triggered by liquidating AI-related investments, major investors are increasingly questioning whether Anthropic can proceed with an IPO at the projected $1.5 trillion valuation. Anthropic had originally planned to make its debut during the week of Nov. 16, with the offering expected to raise up to $100 billion.
Three major investors planning to participate in the IPO said the valuation may need to be adjusted downward, with one indicating it could be closer to $1 trillion. Another investor remarked that even if the market recovers, convincing institutional investors recently damaged by the sell-off to take on substantial risk again in the AI sector could prove challenging, while casting doubt on whether Anthropic will delay the offering; another possibility is that the company may raise less capital than anticipated.
Sources familiar with the matter said that Anthropic executives and their advisors are expected to convene in the coming days to discuss the IPO plans. Some individuals noted that they have refrained from committing to specific plans throughout the entire process to keep options open.
