FATF to Review Jurisdictions with Significant Crypto Activity, Preliminary Results Expected in June 2027

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will review jurisdictions with significant crypto activity, with preliminary results expected to be published in June 2027 and follow-up results in October of the same year. The review will focus on jurisdictions where virtual asset service provider (VASP) activity is of "material importance," taking into account their existing assessment status; FATF has not yet published the list or number of jurisdictions under review.

FATF stated that its regular assessments and follow-up processes will remain the primary tools for evaluating compliance, and that the review will be followed by monitoring and accelerated reporting to track remediation progress. A report published by the organization in July showed that 83% of the jurisdictions surveyed have passed legislation implementing the crypto travel rule; of the 91 jurisdictions that have enacted legislation, 55 have yet to take supervisory or enforcement action.
