Bitcoin Wallet Electrum Releases 4.8.4 Security Update, Fixing Lightning Network Vulnerability
TechFlow: On November 8, according to an official release note from Electrum, the Bitcoin wallet Electrum has released security update 4.8.4, patching a vulnerability in Lightning Network onion messages. Malformed onion messages from arbitrary sources may cause Electrum to disconnect from its channel peers.
According to the release notes, this version is dated November 6; Electrum will discard incoming onion messages until viable use cases are implemented. The update also resolves an issue where some mnemonic phrases generated before version 2.0 could not be recovered.
