Trump's oil and gas holdings saw a significant increase in profits, with the energy sector leading the U.S. stock market

According to a report by Yicai, driven by rising international oil prices, the energy sector has become the best-performing sector of the S&P 500 index in 2026. As of October 27, the S&P 500 Energy Index has risen approximately 52% year-to-date, reaching a historical high, while the S&P 500 index has increased nearly 13% during the same period. Brent crude oil and WTI crude oil have risen over 70% and nearly 75% year-to-date, respectively, with U.S. energy companies' profits growing over 100% compared to the same period last year.

A report from the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee shows that U.S. President Trump has seen his personal wealth increase by as much as $35.8 million this year due to holdings in oil and gas stocks, with net holdings in the sector reaching $81.6 million, nearly doubling since the end of 2025. A White House spokesperson stated that his portfolio is independently managed by third-party financial institutions.

The report also points out that the surge in oil prices has led to a year-on-year increase of about 40% in the retail cost of regular unleaded gasoline, reaching $4.246 per gallon. Since March 1, U.S. consumers have spent approximately $145 billion more year-on-year on gasoline and diesel, making energy costs a key issue in the midterm elections.
