Zcash NU7 upgrade has been activated, with approximately 12,200 ZEC temporarily unspendable.

According to TechFlow, on November 6, Cointelegraph reported that the Zcash NU7 network upgrade has been activated at block height 3,543,405, leaving approximately 12,224 ZEC in the legacy Sprout privacy pool unspendable under existing rules, with a value of around $15 million.

The upgrade rejects version 4 transactions, which is the only transaction format that supports spending Sprout funds. The report notes that these tokens have not been destroyed; future network upgrades may eventually restore access, though the spending capability could potentially never be re-enabled.

NU7 shortens the target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and introduces a network sustainability mechanism that diverts 60% of transaction fees out of circulation for future reissuance via mining rewards.
