Former FBI Agent Pleads Guilty to Stealing Approximately $2.47 Million in Cryptocurrency
Former FBI agent Patrick Steven Yaroch has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering, involving the theft of approximately $2.47 million using cryptocurrency wallet credentials collected during investigations. He previously served at the FBI, and prosecutors allege he used his position of authority to carry out approximately 100 fraudulent transfers across 35 investigations.
Prosecutors stated that Yaroch converted the stolen cryptocurrency into other cryptocurrencies and moved the funds through subsequent transactions to conceal their origin, with some funds used to repay credit cards, car loans, and other debts. His actions affected multiple investigations targeting criminal organizations and nation-state adversaries. (Decrypt)
