Standard Chartered-led Anchorpoint initiative launches retail stablecoin in Hong Kong

on October 26, according to the South China Morning Post, Anchorpoint, a joint venture led by Standard Chartered for stablecoin issuance, plans to launch a public-chain stablecoin product for individual users in Hong Kong, though a specific launch date has not yet been confirmed.

Anchorpoint previously stated that the product could be launched as early as the end of 2026. CEO Dominic Maffei said the team will proceed cautiously and will not rush the launch merely to meet timelines, hoping to further apply regulated digital currencies in daily payments and commercial scenarios, while connecting traditional payment infrastructure with the digital financial system. Anchorpoint also views cross-border payments as an important use case for stablecoins and plans to expand payment channels between Hong Kong and other markets through its partner ecosystem.

Meanwhile, HSBC has launched the HKD-backed HSBC RedCoin, making it available to its 3.3 million PayMe users.
