Amp Cancels Platform Tickets: Bring Your Own ChatGPT and Computer to Run Coding Agent for Free

Beating AI News Flash: Amp launches a free Hobby tier. Amp is a Coding Agent company spun out of Sourcegraph, and its product belongs to the same category as Claude Code and Codex, allowing AI to read code, modify code, run commands, and execute tests on its own. Now, as long as you use your own computer and connect your own ChatGPT subscription or model API Key, you can use Amp for free, with no additional monthly fee or BYOK token fee.

After Amp introduced its subscription model in July this year, users who wanted to connect their own ChatGPT subscription to Amp had to at least sign up for the $20 per month Megawatt plan. With BYOK, even if users used their own model Key, Amp still charged extra token fees and imposed limits. Now both of these layers have been removed. The ChatGPT subscription fee or the model costs of the API itself are still borne by the user.

Amp also has a remote cloud computer product called Orb, which can create a separate environment for each task. Code and development tools are all placed inside it, and after you shut down your own computer, the Agent can continue working, making it convenient to run multiple tasks at the same time. Orb still charges based on usage; if you do not want to pay this cost, you can also have Amp run directly on your own computer.

In addition, Amp is also expanding the scope of BYOK. Paid users can already connect OpenRouter, Amazon Bedrock, Azure Foundry, Ollama Cloud, and custom model interfaces, among others, and this will later be opened to all users.
