Project profile
Solana is a public, programmable blockchain designed for high-throughput transaction processing and a shared execution environment for applications. Its uses include payments, stablecoin transfers, decentralized finance (DeFi), trading and other digital assets. Solana refers to the network and its infrastructure; SOL is its native cryptocurrency. Applications can use the same underlying ledger while implementing their own rules, assets and services.
On Solana, smart contracts are called programs. Transactions contain instructions that invoke programs and read or update accounts holding balances and other data. Validators process transactions, verify signatures and execute program instructions to check the resulting state changes. They also produce blocks and vote on which blocks the network accepts. This combines application execution with agreement on a shared ledger; actual processing capacity and transaction experience depend on network conditions, competing demand and the resources required by each transaction.
Solana uses proof-of-stake (PoS), with consensus votes weighted by the SOL stake associated with each validator. Proof of History (PoH) serves a different role: it uses a sequential computation to create a verifiable record of elapsed time and event ordering. This helps coordinate transaction processing. The two work together: validators execute and check transactions and use stake-weighted voting to establish consensus, while PoH supplies the timing and ordering framework for coordination.
SOL pays network transaction fees, which include a base fee and an optional prioritization fee. A prioritization fee can improve scheduling priority. SOL can also be staked by delegating it to validators, adding to their consensus voting weight. Holders retain ownership of their SOL during native delegation. Staking rewards are calculated for eligible delegated stake, while activation, deactivation and subsequent withdrawal follow protocol timing rules.
Other assets issued on Solana generally use token programs and are commonly described as SPL tokens. Each asset has its own mint, supply and relevant authorities or application rules. Stablecoins and application tokens are distinct assets from SOL and use the same network to process transactions. Their issuance, redemption arrangements and economic roles follow their own asset and application designs.
SOL supply changes through inflationary issuance and protocol fee-burning rules. Under the documented fee structure, part of the base transaction fee is burned, while prioritization fees go to validators. Supply changes reflect issuance and burning together. Native staking rewards are funded by newly issued SOL under the inflation mechanism. Staking rewards vary with protocol parameters, total active stake, validator performance and commission.
Project news
Total holdings increased to 8.5 million SOL, Forward Industries increased holdings by nearly 949,000 SOL last quarter
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Forward Industries increased its holdings by nearly 949,000 SOL last quarter, bringing the total holdings to 8.5 million SOL, approximately 1.4% of the circulating supply of SOL. The company stated that the average cost of acquiring SOL during the quarter was $83.
Holding for one and a half months, a certain giant whale's 550,000 SOL long position has an unrealized profit of $22.43 million
Odaily Planet Daily reports that according to on-chain analyst Yu Jin's monitoring, a certain whale went long on 550,000 SOL at a price of $80.8 in early August, and after holding for one and a half months, currently has an unrealized profit of $22.43 million. The price of SOL rose from over $70 to over $120 during the same period.
Backpack CEO: To bring the entire stock market to Solana, an API connects brokers with the blockchain
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Solana's official X account retweeted an interview clip with Backpack founder and CEO Armani Ferrante. Ferrante stated that Backpack's goal is "not 10 stocks, nor 100 stocks, but to bring the entire stock market onto Solana."
At its core is an API connecting brokers and DeFi: the tokens held by users correspond to real shares, which can be redeemed 1:1 in-kind, freely flowing bidirectionally between brokerage accounts and the blockchain. Ferrante gave an example that users can buy SpaceX tokens on Solana and then directly transfer them to brokerage accounts like Backpack, Fidelity, Robinhood, etc. He emphasized that the fundamental difference from other tokenized stock solutions on the market is that "you truly get the stock itself."
Ferrante revealed that currently there are only about 200 tokenized stock assets across the entire chain, and the next step is to expand to 10,000.
Solana Alpenglow upgrade enters second public testnet
Deep Tide TechFlow news, on September 26, according to CoinDesk, Solana's core consensus upgrade project Alpenglow has officially advanced to the second public testnet phase. This upgrade aims to drastically reduce the transaction settlement delay of the existing network from about 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds, achieving near real-time transaction finality.
This update will replace the original TowerBFT consensus process and introduce a brand-new Votor voting mechanism to optimize block confirmation speed. The project's core development team Anza described this version in the technical documentation as "the largest consensus architecture adjustment in Solana's history," and developers are currently using the testnet for performance validation.
The official statement indicates that this node upgrade mainly targets the settlement speed demands of high-frequency trading and payment scenarios. Subsequent testing will continue to collect network data in preparation for the upcoming mainnet hard fork deployment.
Ansem: Solana DeFi is one of the most undervalued trading opportunities this cycle
Odaily Planet Daily reports that crypto KOL Ansem posted that he is increasingly optimistic about Solana DeFi and believes it is one of the most underestimated trading opportunities in this cycle.
Ansem stated that in the last cycle, Meme coins attracted most of the market's attention, while protocols like Jito and Jupiter were still in the early token lifecycle stage. Now, the core infrastructure landscape of Solana is clearer, with low fees, fast execution, and continuously growing on-chain transaction volume further strengthening this trend. Retail investors, institutions, and tokenized stocks are steadily moving on-chain.
